Thorin and Gimli

I've already posted an old Legolas, Bill the Pony and a hatless Tom Bombadil but today it's the turn of Gimli and Thorin from Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit respectively. Neither have ever been painted.

Gimli was part of a boxed set (which I must have bought, given that I have Legolas and Bill the Pony), which is here on Stuff of Legends.













Thorin was part of a blister pack called The Hobbit Personality Pack from circa 1986.








I was (and remain) a huge fan of Tolkien and it amazes me that I never painted these two.

My Hall of Shame

There are a few miniatures in my collection that haven't stood the test of time. My fault. I never treated them very well as they were played with and carried about in boxes and stuff, then left to fester for 20 years. So here's my hall of shame. I guess some people may want them if only to adapt or in one or two cases because I think they're relatively rare...

An imperial dwarf bolt thrower (1987) with the arrow head missing. I have a full crew for this one and another (undamaged) bolt thrower with its own crew. By 1989 there was a new model of bolt thrower.

A female halfling who should have a broom, known in the catalogue as "Slackjaw".

Tom Bombadil carrying lilies for his lady, but sadly he is no longer carrying his hat. I don't think I've seen this one much at all. He is from a blister pack from the mid eighties (SOL Link).

A Norse dwarf (top row) with no tab, but otherwise fine (I think I was going to make some kind of diorama with him in).

A young forest dragon. I remember buying this when really I wanted one of the much bigger boxed dragons, but there was no way I could afford one. Still, I obviously got a lot of use out of it since I managed to break the end of its tail off (and the horns look a bit "short" as well). Oh well.

Unnamed dwarf with no weapon. This chap must have had an axe or a sword. I haven't found him on Stuff of Legends yet, but he won't be much use without a bit of work...

Some more unknowns

I think I've identified all of the miniatures now apart from "Bill the Pony" and the figures in this post. I've decided to photograph them painted for now a) to get them up here and b) because no matter how awful my adolescent painting skills (and those of my friends) it will be good to have a record of what I did. I will clean them all though.

First of all there is a human with the label "Washer woman". The back seems to show 1985 in Roman numerals.

Next up are 3 halflings. I'm not sure if the one in the grey cloak ever had a tab for a slot and it broke or if he came like that. I'm not even sure if he's a GW figure.

 
There are 2 elves. The first is quite modern, labelled "Wort Keeper" and I suspect I could find him given enough time. The second is clearly labelled "Legolas", but doesn't look like any of the figures I've seen in catalogues as part of GW's LOTR ranges. The back of the tab shows a date in Roman numerals but it's hard to make out. It looks like MCMLXX, but that's too early - I think the final characters have been lost.
